In need of a shake up!

Plateau's are something that are never welcome on a weight loss journey, but something that is inevitable. I've been up and down around 11st 3lbs-11st 5lbs for the last 6 months...it's getting a bit tedious now! I know I'm losing inches so I'm seeing some changes but when the number on the scales isn't moving it's a bit disheartening.

So recently I've been thinking of a few changes, quite big changes, changes that involve leaving Weight Watchers! It will always be the best thing I have done, and I wouldn't be where I am today without it, but I feel like it's time to change things up a bit & something that will break this plateau.

There are a couple of options I have explored that if any of you have any tips/advice/comments about I would love to know!

1. Myfitnesspal
On the likes of twitter and blogging I have seen some great reviews of this app in terms of it's easiness to track & count calories on what you are eating. The thing that draws me to this is that I've never counted calories before, and I think the change would be a good boost.
Although, the thing that is letting me down at the moment is my tracking, but I think that's something I just need to get my head as with any programme I am going to need to track!

2. Slimming World! (going to the dark side!)
Again recently I have been seeing some great results with Slimming World, and after reading up online it seems relatively easy. Like weight watchers it has the support of weekly groups. Another motivating factor is at the moment they have the offer of a 12 week countdown course & you get 2 weeks free. I think this could be a push that I would need to stay on track?

Do you have any other apps/classes that you think I should consider?

Lots of love

  1. OMG... I have just left My Fitness Pal and have just joined WW!!!I lost 20lbs using MFP and it is a really good site..I think the best thing that I am relaly missing on the WW app is the scanner. If you have a iphone or android you can get the app that allows you to scan the barcode of products and it will tell you the calories so you can add it to your log. The database seems to be huge as can even do it for food from Lidl!!! It is free and will tell you how many calories you should eat to lose 1lbs a week etc. It is very good BUT the reason I am leaving is tht I have hit a plateau as well and realise that although counting cals is great... it doesnt always work out eg fruit and veg have calories but different calories work differently. Which is why I am going to WW. I put on 3lbs while not losing anything so now have 23lbs to go till my goal. Good luck and great blog! xx

  2. I use MyNetDiary to track calories - I love the app, it has some great analysis telling you what weight loss you're on target for and a big database of foods with a barcode scanner - from what's been said above it sounds pretty similar to My Fitness Pal though!

Plateau's are definitely hard to deal with mentally - I know previously they have been when I've gone completely off the rails (I was once convinced, having lost 5 stone, that binging on Pizza Hut would shock my metabolism into helping me lose weight when I was stuck at the same weight - needless to say that binge lasted months - what a stupid idea!). Best of luck with your new plans!! x

  3. I tend to just use a spreadsheet for my calorie counting, but I've used MFP and it works really well. I usually combine it with MapMyFitness to track my routes when I run too :)

By the way, I've nominated you for a Liebster Award too :) http://zombie-fitness.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/eleven-facts-about-me-liebster-award.html
